Economic reforms in China and Vietnam: A brief comparison

The economic reform in China has undergone for nearly 3 decades and the Doi Moi (Renovation) process in Vietnam for 21 years, up to the year 2007. Both of them derived from Socialist economies with high levels of central- planning, bureaucracy and state protection. Both was kicked-off as the international stage observed critical changes since the Socialist system was to collapse in 1980s. Generally, the two countries’ economic reforms have shared fundamental similarities. They have been oriented to market economies which was perceived as a Capitalism-owned feature. It can be said that these reform efforts were revolutionary shifts in the ideology of the relationships in production and economic institutions in each country.

Báo cáo mới nhất về tình hình phát triển kinh tế khu vực Đông Á và Thái Bình Dương do WB vừa công bố cho thấy, Việt Nam giữ vững mức tăng trưởng trên 8% trong năm nay và năm 2008. Đáng lưu ý, WB đánh giá Việt Nam vẫn là nước có mức rủi ro thấp về nợ nước ngoài.
