For the last period of five years, Vietnam has experienced dramatic changes which can be thought of breakthroughs in reforming and developing enterprises with various kinds of ownership. These changes have been taken in both theoretical side leading to the building of legal frame work and practical side of measures to put laws into effect. These changes have been applied to both State-owned enterprises and private ones, domestic firms as well as foreigner-invested ones. This achievement can not be separated from reforms of the State’s economic management that Vietnam has undertaken for the last five years.

Banking and financial market attracts foreign investors

Two digit growth, profits, redundant idle money in the domestic market and a limited competitive environment has made Vietnam’s banking market attractive to foreign investors, said Bradle C.Lalonde, managing director of a US financial consultancy company, who has a great deal of experience in Vietnam’s banking sector. Mr Lalonde recently attended a seminar held in Hanoi to discuss ways to attract foreign investment in Vietnamese banks.

Vietnam stock exchange:Development opportunities and challenges

In an effort to develop the market economy and synchronise all kinds of markets, including the stock exchange (SE), relevant State bodies, especially the State Securities Commission (SSC), gathered together to discuss the plans to open and develop the SE in 1995. The opening of the Ho Chi Minh City Securities Trading Centre (HSTC) in July 2000 marked a milestone in Vietnam’s efforts in its economic reforms and reaffirmed Vietnam’s determinations in developing the market economy.
