The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) may have finally realized that it was not a wise decision when it last year labeled the property sector as a non-productive one that is virtually barred from accessing bank loans. The correlation between the property sector and many other industries important to the economy was then not properly attended to, and as the real estate market has come to a dead halt over the past few years, many other industries from steel and cement production to construction and building materials industries have also become ‘clinically dead.’

Asian Development Bank (ADB) Country Director for Vietnam Tomoyuki Kimura emphasized that ensuring the safety of the banking sector was a top priority at a press conference held on April 11, to launch the ADB's Asian Development Outlook 2012. However, he continued, for the long term Vietnam needs to establish a diverse and effective financial system in order to raise sufficient capital capable of supporting economic growth of 7-8 percent annually.

Đề án tái cơ cấu nền kinh tế đã được Bộ Kế hoạch đầu tư hoàn tất và sẽ được thảo luận vào 19/4 tới tại cuộc họp của Ủy ban thường vụ Quốc hội. Điểm mới nhất có lẽ là sách lược: "vừa tuần tự tiệm tiến, vừa tăng tốc đột phá".
