Hiện nay Việt Nam phải sử dụng khoảng 14-16% ngân sách để chi trả nợ. Điều đó có nghĩa số tiền bỏ ra trả nợ hàng năm bằng toàn bộ số tiền chi cho giáo dục và đào tạo; gấp đôi số tiền chi cho y tế; bằng gần 20 lần chi cho khoa học công nghệ.
