OVERVIEW OF VIETNAM ECONOMIC PORTAL

On March 17, 2006, Vietnam Economic Portal (VNEP) was officially launched by Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM) with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister, H.E. Pham Gia Khiem, to supply information on Vietnam's economic renovation and development. VNEP focuses on two kinds of information: news on current events of Vietnam's economy and research products regarding the economic policy-making process of Vietnam.

In an extended concept of national sustainable development, economic activities are of close interaction with other activities in terms of politics, culture, and society. Therefore, VNEP also supply audiences with information about the State (particularly regarding administrative reforms), and information on cultural and social aspects which are most related to economic issues.

VNEP collects news and information from reports, legal documents, official economic reports announced by the Vietnam's Communist Party and State agencies, and statistic data, articles, and research products on Vietnam economy, conducted by agencies, organizations, and experts in Vietnam and abroad. In addition, VNEP selects and disseminates news and articles from other newspapers.

Designed and constructed basing on the NET technology, VNEP complies with the Standard of Web Services for Remote Portals (WSRP) announced by OASIS (Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards). In which, a way of communication between a portal and a remote porlet via web services is figured out. All technical applications of this standard can be run in any portal which applies WSRP standard. VNEP consists of all functions as a portal, these are seen as standards to make distinctions between an aggregated e-portal and a website or a web-based application. These functions include: Customization or Personalization; Content aggregation; Content syndication; Multi-device support; Single sign on; Portal administration; Portal user management.

In addition to information regarding above subjects, VNEP also supplies audiences with other online services, including online conference, online forum, to act as a channel for policy-makers, experts presenting, exchanging recommendations and ideas on current events of Vietnam's economic renovation and development; via VNEP, it is possible to conduct surveys and to hold opinion polls on issues of Vietnam's economic renovation and development.

VNEP serves as a pool resource of economic news and information (such as articles on Vietnam's economy and world economy, in both terms of theory and practice) with linkages to vairous domestic and oversea websites and databases.

Online services of VNEP include: news letters; online subscription of publications and documents, online information search as requirements of audiences.
