Bower, former chairman of the US – ASEAN Business Council, now Chairman of the BrooksBowerAsia consulting company, said that after Vietnam and the US sign agreements concluding their bilateral negotiations for Vietnam’s WTO membership, membership preparations would be complete.

The senior advisor on investment for the Vietnamese government said, “I can say that this autumn we will see an announcement about Vietnam’s official accession to the WTO. I forecast this will happen close to the opening of the APEC Summit in Hanoi.”

Bower also said that Vietnam and the US negotiators are discussing with their governments several of the outstanding issues that went unresolved at recent negotiations in Geneva.

“Vietnam submitted its application for WTO membership for 11 years ago, and it’s time to finish. This is an ebullient period and the final negotiations with the US will conclude for Vietnam to become the newest member of WTO,” Bower asserted. “As I’ve said, this will come before the APEC Summit opens in Hanoi.”
