Minister of Trade Truong Dinh Tuyen has signed Decision 0634 on the establishment of an office for provision of information and fielding queries over technical barriers in trade (TBT).
Under the decision, the office will be set up under the Import – Export Management Department under the Ministry of Trade (MoT), which is a link in the network of offices providing information relating to TBT.
The MOT office will coordinate with the network to define answers to queries raised over issues or trade barriers arising for WTO members, under bilateral and multilateral agreement signatories, and conformity assessment process and requirements.
The office will also provide information, regarding the content and application of legal documents, and stipulate the conformity assessment process within MoT’s management scope. The MoT office will provide answers to questions raised by associations or enterprises that may face TBT lawsuits. Contact can be made by e-mail or fax massage within 24 hours of receiving notice from the Vietnam TBT Office.
The office will also be responsible for checking and compiling legal documentation on technical requirements in accordance with the TBT Agreement. It will also periodically provide information to associations in order to help association members develop technical requirement systems. This is considered a highly important task, with an aim to assisting Vietnamese enterprises in overcoming technical barriers set by exporters.
