The event, co-organised by the International Data Group in Vietnam (IDG Vietnam) and the Information Technology Department of Banking (ITDB) under the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), features the theme "Technology Modernisation in the Development of Stable & Efficient Vietnamese Banking Systems".

Banking Vietnam 2006 provides an interesting forum with diverse content and various forms benefiting information technology (IT) solution providers directly involved in technology transfers, as well as banks and bank customers using technology.

Speaking at the event, SBV Governor Le Duc Thuy said in the current context of global economic integration, Vietnam’s banking system is striving to develop to a new level of modernisation. The sustainable development of Vietnam’s banking systems is considered a process of consolidating, re-structuring, and innovating technology to modernise the banking sector, thus ensuring the rapid and sustainable development of the domestic economy.

ITDB general director Ta Quang Tien said that Banking Vietnam 2006 marks its fifth anniversary with the largest number of participants, including 1,500 professionals, seniors executives, Government officials and IT solution providers, as well as representatives from foreign and local banks and managers from 64 provincial branches of the SBV. It not only acts as the annual forum for relevant businesses but this year also looked at the effectiveness of the four previous events. The event’s scope is larger than other conferences that feature a variety of essential subjects towards World Trade Organisation (WTO) accession.

On the occasion, an exhibition has been held to introduce the latest advanced solutions, ICT products and services, equipment and technologies that can be used to modernise banking systems. It created a good chance for domestic and foreign businesses involved in banking services to meet, share experiences and seek co-operation opportunities.
