
MPI preparing for investment promotion campaigns (15/8)

A big conference on calling for investment into the central region and the Central Highlands will be held in August. MPI puts high hopes on the success of the conference.
The central region has many big economic zones and its attractive investment incentives have caught the attention of many foreign investors recently. An official from MPI said that the ministry was considering several very big investment projects which would set up production bases in the region.
Vietnam will send business delegations to the Republic of Korea, Australia to call for investment into Vietnam, and attend Vietnamese celebrations in European countries.
Vietnam and Japan will co-organise the Vietnam – Japan Economic Forum, which will fall under the framework of the Vietnam – Japan Festival at the end of August.
MPI will join forces with the Siemens and Bayer groups to organise a workshop in Germany, calling for investment into Vietnam. Vietnam’s investment environment and investment policies will be introduced at the workshop. Vietnam will also organise tours for foreign businessmen so that they can come to Vietnam to survey the market.
In November, on the occasion of the APEC Summit, a big investment forum, called APEC CEO Summit 2006, will be organised. It will bring together 800 big groups in the region and the world, and 200 Vietnamese companies.
The prime minister’s instruction on fostering the new investment wave into Vietnam is being drafted. It says that investment promotion activities should be regarded as one of the most important ways to attract investment.
There are several works Vietnam will focus on in the near future. Investment promotion representative offices will be set up in key markets, especially the US, Japan and the EU. An investment promotion fund is scheduled to soon be set up.
In addition, the government will soon present its list of projects calling for investment in the 2006-2010 period.
