The PM emphasised three major tasks including the economic growth rate at the conference on socio-economic and State budget missions. The two others are creating breakthroughs in administrative reforms and intensifying the fight against corruption and wastefulness.

The Government leader said the nation obtained many outstanding achievements last year such as record highs in foreign direct investment inflow and official development assistance pledges by international donors, joining the World Trade Organization and hosting the 14th APEC Conference.

“These performances have created new forces and new opportunities for us. Chances to boost economic development had never been better before,” said Mr. Dung.

At the meeting, the PM, Minister of Planning and Investment Vo Hong Phuc, Trade Minister Truong Dinh Tuyen, Finance Minister Vu Van Ninh and other ministers put forth measures to fulfill this year’s targets of socio-economic development. They all paid special attention to administrative reforms.

“Viet Nam’s administrative problems are obstacles against efforts to raise the nation’s competitive edge and make inroads into resources. Opportunities from the WTO will not automatically become benefits and can turn into long-term difficulties. Now the point is to take action,” said Trade Minister Tuyen.
