Vietnam to switch to e-customs by 2008 (22/01)

06/08/2010 - 178 Lượt xem

It follows a pilot program a few years ago by the General Department of Customs (GDC) in the northern port of Hai Phong City and Ho Chi Minh City and official introduction last September in some key provinces.

The new system came in for praise from businesses who said it took a mere 2-3 minutes on average to have goods cleared instead of the 7-8 hours it had taken when filling out paperwork by hand.

But is still has some kinks. Customs offices at the borders are yet to be linked with the system, meaning goods are often held up there when customs cleared electronically.

The e-customs project is part of a larger e-commerce project undertaken by the Ministry of Trade. The e-customs project is part of a larger e-commerce project undertaken by the Ministry of Trade.
