The southern Vietnamese city of Ho Chi Minh City has been added to a list compiled by a world-renowned British financial consulting firm of the 100 fastest growing cities from 2005 till 2020.
The Financial Times newspaper broke the news of a recent study by Pricewaterhouse Coopers, a prestigious UK-based financial consulting firm, selecting HCMC to stand with eight other emerging cities that will see the fastest economic growth rates during the period.
Japan’s Tokyo, and the two US cities of New York and Los Angeles will see the largest economic production while cities of emerging economies, like Ho Chi Minh City, will lead the rest of the world in terms of growth pace, the paper said.
Ho Chi Minh City, which is home to nearly 6 million people, is the major economic and financial hub of Viet Nam with an annual gross domestic production (GDP) accounting for one third of the whole country’s production.
The city’s GDP growth rose to 12.2 percent in 2005 from 7.4 percent in 2001. During the 2001-2005 period, its GDP doubled to hit 169 trillion VND.
