
Vietnam becoming contract manufacturing star in region: report (29/06)

Vietnam has emerged as the brightest spot in Southeast Asia's for electronic contract manufacturing followed by Thailand, a market researcher’s has said in a report. | |
iSuppli forecast Vietnam’s contract manufacturing to grow at a compounded annual rate of 121.9 percent until 2011, according to the report, which was published in Singapore’s The Business Times Thursday. The comparable rate for Thailand was 8.7 percent, Malaysia 7.1 percent, and Singapore 6.9 percent, the slowest of the countries tracked in the report. About Vietnam it said: “From a market estimated to bring in revenues of just US$35 million in 2006, it is expected to grow to US$1.88 billion in 2011, as more major contract manufacturers like Foxconn, Jabil Circuit, and Compal Electronics set up operations there, with more expected to follow suit.” Contract manufacturing also includes manufacture using original design.
