The meeting, which was chaired by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Deputy Prime Ministers Nguyen Sinh Hung, Pham Gia Khiem and Truong Vinh Trong, featured talks on subsidies to people who participated in the revolution and contributed to national reconstruction as well as ways to determine land prices.
After hearing Government members discuss salary reforms, Prime Minister Dung said plans need to be more specific.
Salaries of people who have contributed to the revolution and the public service sector should be increased. Private and state-owned companies should determine salaries for workers by themselves based on the minimum salary set by the Government, he said.
Dung said salaries in the administrative and public sector were low. He said the situation should be remedied.
Dung said while it was essential to encourage different economic sectors to take part in developing education and health, State schools and hospitals must ensure the poor have access to social services.
At the meeting, the Government approved a draft decree that guides the implementation of the Enterprise Law.
Dung called on the Agriculture and Rural Development Ministry to tabulate the amount of land under rice cultivation. He also called on officials to preserve 4 million ha of rice fields across the country to ensure food security.
Dung also informed cabinet members that the Party Central Committee agreed with the Government’s proposal to be made to the 12th National Assembly to reduce the number of ministries by four.
