The session saw 6.8 million shares traded for VND482 billion (US$30 million), respectively up 17 percent and 5.2 percent. Of the 112 listed stocks, 36 gained and 53 lost. Major blue chips like FPT, NKD, PPC, SJS and VSH all lost. The only heavyweight to post gains was Sacombank. The bank led the market in terms of both trading volume and value, with 2 million shares changing hands for VND116 billion. Foreign investors scaled down their buying by 35 percent to VND75 billion, picking up mainly FPT, VNM, PPC and PVD. They also sold 172,940 shares for VND17 billion. Of the two mutual funds PRUBF1 stayed unchanged at VND10,900 and VFMVF1 inched up by 0.67 percent to close at VND30,100. Hanoi’s HASTC-Index edged up 6.9 points to close at 268.67 Investors in Hanoi traded 1.8 million shares for VND150 billion, up 50 percent and 40 percent respectively. Out of 89 stocks listed, 52 gained and 23 lost. Asia Commercial Joint Stock Bank (ACB) and Saigon Securities Inc., (SSI) had the highest trading volumes with 350,000 shares and 180,000 shares exchanged respectively. ACB – the country’s fifth largest lender by assets - led the market in terms of value with VND46 billion in exchanges while runner-up SSI – Vietnam’s largest broker – posted exchanges worth VND31 billion.
