Deputy Head of the MoPI’s National Economics General Department Le Viet Duc said that in the last two years (2005-2006) the export value proportion of industrial goods on the decrease and that of agro-forestry and fisheries products increased, the trend is reversing this year.

Duc was addressing the forum on the socio-economic-administrative policy 2007, jointly held by the Central Institute for Economic Management and the German Economic Cooperation Organization, in Ha Noi on October 5,

He went on to say that the nation’s main staples recording high growth included textile and apparels, wood works, electronic appliances and computer components, electric wires and cables, plastics, suitcases, handbags and umbrellas and fruits and vegetables.

Their export earnings reached almost 11 billion USD in the first nine months of the year, accounting for around 32 percent of the country’s total export turnover, he elaborated.

Meanwhile, the export turnover to the EU grew by 30 percent; to the US rose by 24 percent; and to member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), by 26 percent.

Chief adviser of the macro-economic reform programme Ulrike Maenner said that Vietnam’s economy has recorded progress since the country joined the World Trade Organisation (WTO) almost one year ago.

She suggested Vietnam reform its economic structure and change the scale of enterprises, especially those of the private sector.

The country should pay more attention to high-quality human resources training programmes, she said.

The participants focused their discussions on Vietnam’s investment environment after the country’s joining the WTO, public services and school and hospital fees.
