Vietnam forecasts 2007 growth at 8.5 pct: report

06/08/2010 - 92 Lượt xem

The government's initial target for this year's growth was between 8.2 percent and 8.5 percent.

Planning and Investment Minister Vo Hong Phuc told a National Assembly meeting that full-year gross domestic product would rise to $71.3 billion, taking per capita income to $835, above the $820 targeted earlier, Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper said.

The economy expanded 8.16 percent in the first nine months of this year from a year earlier, the government has said.

Vietnam's consumer price inflation will average 8 percent or less this year, the government said early this month. January to September's trade deficit more than doubled to $7.6 billion.

Vietnam needs to boost market reforms to ensure sustainable growth as its fast-expanding economy has also widened income gaps, economists say.

The Asian Development Bank has forecast Vietnam's growth this year at 8.3 percent.
