The World Bank (WB) pledged on November 22 to provide a preferential credit worth 457 million USD for four projects in education and infrastructure development in Viet Nam .

Credit agreements underscoring the committment were signed in Ha Noi by State Bank of Viet Nam Governor Nguyen Van Giau and WB Country Director Ajay Chhibber.

Under the agreements, the WB will inject 207 million USD into the Mekong Delta Transport Infrastructure Development Project; 59.4 million USD into the Second Higher Education Project; and 25 million USD as additional investment in the Mekong Transport and Flood Protection Project.

Meanwhile, the Ha Noi Urban Transport Development Project will be financed around 155 million USD from the WB and 9.8 million USD from the Global Environment Facility that is being manged by the WB.

The WB’s fundings are making up over half of the total investment of 712 million USD worth of the above four projects.

The rest will be provided by the Vietnamese government and other donors including the Australian Agency for International Development and a Japanese organisation.

WB Country Director Ajay Chhibber said at the signing ceremony that these credit agreements reflect the fact that Viet Nam continues to be high on WB’s priority list.
