In an exclusive interview with the Republic of Korea public broadcaster, the President said the new status would generate more thrust and confidence for Viet Nam’s ambitious plan to become a modern industrialised nation by 2020.

He said: "Viet Nam will continue its path of further integration with the international community. But it needs to accelerate the transformation of the economy in accordance with laws of the market and the guidance of socialism to ensure this is done well."

The President emphasised that maintenance of political stability and security and the canvassing of all available resources was crucial to the country’s economic growth.

Asked to assess the relationship between Viet Nam and South Korea, the President replied that Viet Nam had gained valuable knowledge from the way the Republic of Korea had built itself and that Korean investors had an important role in his country’s socio-economic development.

The President called for a greater exchange between government and social organisations so as to deepen the comprehensive bilateral partnership between the two countries.

He also sought Korea’s help in education and vocational training.

The president attributed Viet Nam’s progress of the past 20 years to the efforts of the Viet Nam Communist Party; the people, including overseas Vietnamese; and his country’s willingness to undertake international integration. The interview was part of a KBS special programme about Viet Nam that will be broadcast in South Korea early next year.
