The chief of the EuropeAid Cooperation Office said the EU will continue providing Official Development Assistance (ODA) to Vietnam until 2013, the year set to see Vietnam become a country with the medium income.
Koos Richelle, Director General of the EuropeAid Cooperation Office, was talking with Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan in Hanoi on Dec. 7.
The EU official said he was pleased with the efficient use of the EU’s aid in Vietnam and informed that the EU intends to steer its ODA to Vietnam’s sectors, such as the healthcare or education, instead of pouring the money into single projects, and give direct support to the country’s budget.
The Vietnamese Deputy PM told the EU official that Vietnam’s education and training is still in need of more international aid as the country targets a high-quality human resource for its modernisation and industrialisation programme.
He highlighted the EU for organising education seminars, exhibitions and forums, saying these activities have helped promote the cooperation and mutual understanding between Vietnam and the EU.
