“Ministries and local administrations must review their anti-corruption activities to achieve a breakthrough in the task next year,” he told a meeting in Hanoi.

The meeting heard reports from northern localities on fighting corruption, and Dung told the national anti-corruption committee to consider the reports to make changes to its own policies.

Ministries and agencies should continue to improve mechanisms for administering land, infrastructure development, economic projects, and government finances and assets, he said.

He urged provinces and cities to educate government employees about fighting corruption, and told local leaders to take the responsibility in leading the fight.

He also called on local authorities to strengthen inspections and audits of state-owned agencies and businesses.

Serious corruption cases that had been discovered had to be dealt with appropriately, he stressed.

It was important for the agencies concerned to improve their effectiveness in investigating public reports and accusations of corruption, he said.

Dung called for a stronger role by the media in the war against corruption.
