The Securities Law became effective from January 1, 2007.
2. The appointment of the General Director of the Thien Viet Securities Company when the appointer himself did not know about the appointment and he had also never signed a contract to work for Thien Viet.
3. The strong growth of the market’s scale with total market capitalisation at VND 500 trillion, equivalent to 43.7% of the national GDP in 2007.
4. The State Bank of Vietnam’s instruction No 03 to limit securities investment loans to a maximum of 3%.
5. 2007 is the year of major IPOs, including those of Vietnam Insurance Corporation (Bao Viet) and the Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank).
6. The increase in capital of the VF1 fund: this is the first closed fund that has been allowed to increase in capital. However, the adjustment in price of the fund certificate caused discontent among investors.
7. Ho Chi Minh City Securities Trading Centre has turned into Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange.
8. Improvements in securities training. In late 2006 and early 2007, the securities training system became overloaded as demands increased sharply. Thus, five universities have been approved to share the training work and things has been running smoothly.
9. The law of individual income tax has been passed. For the first time, incomes from securities investment will be taxed.
10. A boom in mass media about securities. Securities and securities market have become a regular column not only in many economic newspapers and television but also other social newspapers.
