Dong drops on speculation nation seeks weaker currency (24/01)

The dong fell 0.04 percent to 15,989 against the dollar in Hanoi, paring gains this month to 0.08 percent, according to prices compiled by Bloomberg.
The State Bank of Vietnam Monday set the reference rate at 16,105 per dollar from 16,104 on January 18, according to its website.
Banks are allowed to trade the dong 0.75 percent either side of that rate.
Government bonds had a third weekly gain last week, with yields of the benchmark five-year note falling 8 basis points to 8.58 percent, according to a daily fixing price from 10 banks compiled by Bloomberg.
A basis point is 0.01 percentage point.
