Viet Nam is now growing rapidly in terms of exports in Asia,” BAFT board member Howard Bascom said on March 18 during the Asian Banker Summit 2008 in Ha Noi.
According to Howard, who is Managing Director of the Bank of New York Mellon, Asia is a huge trading market with all major export activities in the world now coming from the region.
Meanwhile London-based Barclays Commercial Bank Vice Chairman Jeremy J.O’B Wilson saids Viet Nam’s and other Asian countries’ strengths comes from the very high saving ratio.
Wilson said Asia’s biggest strength is its capacity to provide goods for the world economy and as a result, it has now earned a lot of money that is now waiting to be invested in the rest of the world.
Asian Banker Summit Advisory Board Chairman David Eldon said currently many businesses from other countries in the world are looking to Viet Nam , especially its financial and banking market.
However, Eldon added that Viet Nam’s economy needs more time to adapt to changes arising from international integration and apply best practices from other countries in the financial and banking field.
The four-day Asian Banker Summit 2008, which began on March 16, is focusing on financial issues including credit risk, cash management and banking regulations.-Enditem
