Trade Deficit Likely to Reach US$27 Billion This Year (07/04)

The ministry is forecasting exports of US$59 billion, an increase of 22 percent compared to 2007, and imports of US$87 billion, an increase of 37 to 40 percent.
To close the gap, the ministry has proposed boosting the export of commodities and services. Moreover, import duties will be increased on commodities which can be produced in the country, but in a way that complies with Viet Nam’s treaty obligations.
