In particular, paddy/rice export will be decreased from 8.3/4.5 million tons in 2007 to 7.38/4.4 million tons in 2010, 7.15/4.3 million tons in 2015 and 6.43/3.8 million tons in 2020.
The country’s total rice production will be raised from 35.9 million tons in 2007 to 37.58 million tons 2010 and will hit 39.53 million tons in 2020, aiming to match the speed of population growth.
While the volume of rice per capita tends to decrease, population will grow to an estimated 98.6 million people in 2020 and processing demand will increase, thus domestic annual consumption is forecast to surge 1 percent in the near future.
Together with reducing the rice export, domestic rice consumption will be raised from 76.9 percent to 80.3 percent in 2010 and to 83.8 percent in the end of 2020.
The country is expected to consume 39.63 million tons of rice in 2020.
