CPI will not increase by more than 24% in 2008
The Taskforce on Domestic Market Regulation agreed at the working session at the end of October that the prices of strategic materials and consumer commodities are now all on the decrease as the result of the world’s price decreases and of the Government’s measures to fight inflation.
All experts believe that the CPI in 2008 will not increase by more than 24%, while the CPI increase in 2009 would be between 10% and 12% only.
The flood in the northern provinces made the prices of vegetables and fruits increase sharply in the last few days, but the price increases have occurred in some localities only. These would affect the CPI in some localities, but would not affect the CPI of the whole country.
The experts believe that the CPI in November will not be higher than in October. Meanwhile, the index is expected to keep rising towards the Lunar New Year, first and second quarters of 2009, but the increases will be low.
Ensuring enough commodities for market
It is expected that Hanoi and flood-stricken areas will only be able to have vegetables for themselves in 20 days. Therefore, in order to have enough food and vegetables for local residents, the Ministry of Industry and Trade have decided to mobilize produce from other areas.
The ministry has sent telegrams to localities, asking them to get ready to give support if Hanoi needs the demand. The ministry has also agreed with the Ministry of Transport on the solutions to carry commodities from the central region to the north.
Hanoi’s and HCM City’s authorities have been asked to use VND 160 billion and VND 500 billion respectively, for the program aiming to ensure enough key commodities for Tet consumption.
