The Thoi Bao Kinh Te Vietnam on Friday quoted the governor as saying "banks' credit growth will be controlled to gradually decrease in the coming years".

Giau also forecast inflation next year at around 7.5-8.5 percent and GDP growth of 6.2-7 percent if credit growth is at 25-27 percent.

He said the second scenario for credit growth would be at around 25-27 percent if inflation in 2010 rose to less than 10 percent.

Giau also said the State Bank expected the economy would grow 5 percent and annual inflation at 6-8 percent this year, in line with previous government forecasts.
