According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, since 2008 foreign investment has been focused on real estate, hotel and mining projects, all of which operate outside industrial parks.
Vietnam has 228 industrial parks taking up a total area of 58,400 hectares. But only around 46 percent of the total space at 145 operating parks has been covered.
Local industrial parks contribute some 20 percent of the country’s export revenues and employ more than one million workers, the Ministry of Planning and Investment said.
The country is expected to build 91 new industrial parks in the next five years.
