TMA Solutions deputy chairman Tran Phuc Hong said that there have been positive changes in workforce in recent years, and that the number of universities and colleges offering IT training has increased considerably, which all increased the IT training scale and the number of IT students. The expanded training scale has helped increase workforce supply while making it possible for businesses to have access to many new choices, he said. A number of training facilities applied advanced training methods, which helped them improve training quality, Hong said. While facing competition from newly opened training facilities, a number of leading schools/universities/colleges changed their training operations to make them include more skill training and practices to maintain their attractiveness to talented students, the deputy chairman said. However, practice, communication and foreign language skills are still weaknesses of most of students, he added.
Datalogic managing director Tran Tien Phat said that businesses have to spend money and time on retraining people that they just recruit while the development demand increases. A high quality workforce becomes an urgent need and is vital for the IT industry development to be proportional with the potential and become more efficient.
Cooperation important for balancing supply and demand
A recently announced report by the Business Monitor International (BMI), an international market research company, indicates that the Vietnamese IT and communication market's annual dual growth rate is expected to reach 12 percent from 2011-2015 and its revenue is expected to come to about US$3.3 billion in 2015. To approach sustainable development, Vietnam must assure a sufficient, high quality workforce. Ho Chi Minh City is a leading locality that contributes greatly to the development.
Nguyen Anh Tuan, the deputy director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Information and Communications, said that human resources are integral for development, and that many foreign investors are pouring capital into Vietnam therefore it is necessary to clarify appropriate training demands so standard workforce can be trained and provided for businesses.
TMA Solutions deputy chairman Tran Phuc Hong said that workforce have increased in terms of quantity so quality needs to be a priority in the coming time. Word 'quality' needs to be understood consistently. While training facilities focus on improving their equipment bases, curricula and training scale, businesses are interested in skills to solve a problem, work methods and soft and foreign language skills of graduates. Businesses can provide newly recruited people with technical and technology training. A feasible, cost effective solution is cooperation between training facilities and businesses, which can make training practical. TMA Solutions worked with more than 20 universities in different fields to help students get rich information and have opportunities to practice skills.
Training and R&D (research and development) are considered as good solutions that can help businesses take the initiative in technology and high quality manpower approach and maintain development. A number of R&D centers are running effectively, including the R&D center of TMA Solutions and R&D centers of the Quang Trung Software City and the Saigon Hi-tech Park (SHTP).
TMA Solutions deputy chairman Tran Phuc Hong said that no matter that they are small or big, businesses can carry out training at a reasonable cost if they are interested in training. Public-private partnership (PPP) should be begun in small, practical operations. When a model has an established niche and its efficiency is proved, related parties will increase their involvement in that model.
SHTP Training Center Dinh Thuy My Quynh emphasized that it is necessary for authorities, businesses and training facilities to work with each other. Under cooperation, authorities continue creating favorable conditions and appropriate policies to attract the talent, while businesses and training facilities work with each other to make training practical and satisfy employers' demands and help learners approach advanced knowledge./.
