October 13 is the day when Vietnamese entrepreneurs, the captains who row the national economic boat, are honoured for their contributions to the national construction and development.
Since the country started its renewal process in 1986, Vietnamese businesses have grown in both quantity and quality. From 10,000 businesses in the first years of renewal, Vietnam had more than 544,390 enterprises by the end of 2010, 44,000 more than the target set by the Government.
With their dynamism, creativity and studiousness, Vietnamese entrepreneurs have affirmed their positions in both local and international markets through products bearing the Vietnamese trademark.
The domestic economy’s deep integration into the world’s with negative impacts from the global economic crisis requires the Vietnamese entrepreneurs to show off their strength in a fiercer competition.
For this reason, this year’s Vietnam Entrepreneurs Day has the message of “Vietnamese entrepreneurs strive for international standards.” This was also the criterion of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2011 to select a representative of the Vietnamese business community for the Ernst & Young Global Entrepreneur of the Year Award to be held in Monaco in June 2012.
According to Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Vu Tien Loc, to achieve global standards, local businesses should raise their competitiveness with top priority given to improving corporate administration and human resource quality.
At present, VCCI is building a draft Entrepreneur Resolution to be submitted to the Party Politburo with the targets of forming a powerful contingent of businessmen and increasing the ratio of large- and medium-sized enterprises by 2020.
