According to statistics by the General Department of Vietnam Customs, total export and import turnover between the country and Greece in 2012 reached USD173 million, up 19.9 percent against 2011. Of this figure, Vietnam’s export turnover to Greece was USD150 million.

In 2012, Vietnam’s import turnover from Greece posted USD22.4 million, up 88.1 percent against 2011. Although imports from Greece rose sharply, Vietnam still achieved a trade surplus in the market.

Greece is a small market, but has much potential for Vietnam’s products such as seafood, footwear, electronics, coffee and rice. In 2012, export turnover of Vietnam’s seafood products to Greece reached USD16.8 million, while footwear hit USD17.3 million and coffee, USD16 million.

In 2012, aiming to boost the bilateral relation in economics and trade, the two countries organised meetings among Governmental organs, business associations, a seminar themed “Vietnam Ship Industry – Cooperative Potential and Opportunities in Greece” on June 6, 2012, and an exhibition displaying Vietnamese commodities in Mesolongi. Vietnam Deputy President Nguyen Thi Doan also attended the Vietnam – Greece Business Forum on May 31, 2012, during her participation in the Global Summit of Women 2012 in Athens.
