Over the last six years, Viet Nam has stepped up efforts in coping with climate change, noted Deputy PM Hai, adding that the Government has freshly decided to allocate VND 3,000 billion for relevant programs and projects.
The Government also has approved the National Strategy for Climate Change in 2011 and the National Strategy for Green Growth in 2012, which all figured out targets for reduction greenhouse gas emissions. The National Assembly passed the Law on water resources in 2012 and the Law on natural disaster prevention and mitigation in 2013.
Thanks to the introduction of the SPRCC, climate change challenges have been inseparable part of Viet Nam’s political and development agenda and effectively integrated into a string of sectoral policies, said a representative of the World Bank.
Reports show that SPRCC has contributed to improving awareness and readiness of all levels to deal with natural disasters, particularly in most vulnerable areas.
Under the SPRCC, international donors have granted US$1 billion for Viet Nam.
On behalf of the Government, Deputy PM Hai thanked the international community’s valuable support for Viet Nam over the past six years.
He urged inferior levels to work with donors to quickly figure out detailed plans for post-2015 programs and projects./.
