The information was released at a press conference, held by the MIT on September 4 in Ha Noi.

He said that the garment and footwear sectors have a lot of advantages joining in the global value chain as Viet Nam has inked a number of trade agreements.

These two sectors are using huge materials imported from China. Thanks to the devaluation of China’s yuan, businesses operating in these fields have chances to get access to cheaper raw materials, he said, adding that the exports of garment and footwear will rocket.

As Viet Nam’s agricultural products have not been exported to China in huge quantity, China’s yuan devaluation has not affected to the exports of Vietnamese agricultural products, except cassava and rubber.

According to the report of the MIT, Viet Nam’s imports from China accounted for 14.5% of the nation’s total import value.
