Deputy
Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung made the statement
at a workshop on September 21 in Ha Noi reviewing MDG implementation
over the past 15 years.
In the post-2015 period when the MDGs program
concludes, Viet Nam will head towards sustainable development goals and
improve the quality of its activities. Viet Nam needs to mobilize
resources to obtain higher results in economic growth, poverty
reduction, improving productivity, and renovating policies, to ensure
inclusive and equal development, he added.
Over the past 15 years, the country has reaped
significant achievements in education, gender equality, public
healthcare, climate change adaptation such as lower maternal and child
mortality rates, and malaria and TB under control.
Measures have been devised to ensure sustainable
development with a focus on improving living conditions for
disadvantaged people.
UN coordinator in Viet Nam Pratibha Mehta hailed the key role of the ministry in implementing the MDGs over the past 15 years.
Viet Nam should continue to pursue its targets. The
UN will maintain its support for the Vietnamese government, social
organizations, and the private sector to obtain SDGs and realize new
achievements, she added.
The event was jointly organised by the ministry and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
