One of the major holdups to the conclusion of the agreement concerns the regulation of diary products. New Zealand is home to the largest diary company and wants to increase exports to the U.S., Canada and Japan. The U.S. and Canada fear that the imported milk could drive domestic diary farmers out of business.
Other two sticky issues are tax barriers on autos and auto parts imported into the U.S. and Canada, and the duration for keeping exclusive rights to medicines.
The 12 TPP member countries are Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the U.S. and Viet Nam./.
