Vietnamese
rice exporters have stepped up rice collection to fulfill signed
contracts with partners from Indonesia and the Philippines.
Especially, Malaysia has emerged as the 3rd biggest
rice importer of Viet Nam as the volume and value rose 11% and 2%,
respectively, against the same period last year.
Meanwhile, aquaculture exports to Thailand witnessed a year-on-year increase of nearly 20%.
On the contrary, imports from the ASEAN markets
also picked up over the past time, particularly fertilizer, pesticide,
and raw materials. Specifically, fertilizer imports from Laos climbed up
over 70% while rubber imports from Malaysia soared 37.3% in quantity
and 25.9% in value.
The two-way increases show that Viet Nam stands ready to be both a provider and exporter of the neighboring markets.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural
Development, Viet Nam is focusing on restructuring the agriculture
sector towards defining key commodities of each region as well as
developing the processing domain.
The country is also building a system of policies
to facilitate the participation in the ASEAN Community in general and
the agriculture market in particular.
Agriculture is among various sectors of Viet Nam that are earning a niche in the ASEAN market./.
