It has been weeks since the central State Bank of Vietnam revised down its policy rates, followed by banks to slash deposit rates and cut lending rates as well, but the response has almost been muted. There is no attitude of expectations as often seen in previous rate cuts, there is no joy at the lower capital cost, and - at the anxiety of banks - there is no scene of borrowers queuing up to snap up cheap funds. The issue of attention now is the concern over the negative side-effects of the rate cuts.
